With mortgages as a hot topic around the family dinner table, it’s no surprise that Shannon Roberts followed in her parents’ footsteps and pursued a career in the finance industry. “My parents are mortgage brokers and talking about personal finance was quite common in my house, so that really inspired me to help others,” she recalls.

After earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University—where she also served as Co-Chair of the Queens Real Estate Association—Shannon took a position as a residential mortgage underwriter for First National Financial, then later as a business development manager with TD Bank’s Broker Services division. At TD, she doubled her territory sales target in one year, earning an award for outstanding performance, while also solidifying her approach to customer service: “I treated every client as I would want to be treated, helping them understand how a mortgage ties into their current financial situation and future,” she explains.

Shannon offers this advice to all of her clients: “A great mortgage rate is only the tip of the iceberg.
