Partner – Mortgage Agent Level 2
Kailey Buckley set out to build a career in hospitality because she loved delivering great customer service. She would eventually discover that she was in the wrong industry. “I wanted to do something that added more value,” she explains. Fortunately for us, Kailey decided on a career in finance with a focus on the mortgage business.
After graduating with a business degree in Hospitality and Business Management from George Brown College in 2008, Kailey worked in a customer service role with Starwood Hotels and Resorts for seven years, then went on to build a new restaurant venture between 2007 and 2012. She returned to school in 2012 to complete her mortgage agent certification after deciding on that aforementioned career change. “I really wanted to empower clients to gain control over their finances,” she says of the life-changing decision to switch industries. “Basic financial management is a skill that’s often overlooked as we’re growing up, and that often leaves young adults with damaged credit. It’s a great feeling to help them set a plan in motion to buy their first home and plan for the future.”
Kailey would go on work for intelliMortgage from 2013 to 2016 as their lead underwriter and customer service representative, building industry expertise and gaining invaluable experience before eventually joining the Friesen team. As a partner with Outline Financial, Kailey brings a relatable approach and a focus on strong communication as she works to make the mortgage process simple—and enjoyable—for our clients. “I find the language around mortgages tends to be created from a bank’s perspective, not the client’s, and that makes it far more difficult to understand. We break down the process and remind clients that there’s far more to a mortgage than just the rate. It’s all about customizing a mortgage plan that helps them achieve their lifestyle and financial goals.”
What Kailey wants you to know about Outline Financial: “At Outline, there’s a real sense of family across our team. We work collaboratively and always put the client’s needs first by giving them the tools to make the right decisions for their financial future. By bringing together a team of diverse professionals, we’re constantly growing our knowledge base to ensure we always exceed our clients’ expectations.”
Here’s what you may not know about Kailey: She’s a bit of an adventurer. After graduating, Kailey spent five months backpacking from Ecuador to Argentina, learning Spanish along the way and developing a life-long passion for travel. The experience helped her gain a healthy perspective that she carries with her today. “I definitely learned not to sweat the small stuff,” she explains. “What’s important is being happy with your health and family.” Kailey is also a cyclist and loves camping and spending time outdoors when she’s not volunteering for organizations such as the Daily Bread Food Bank.
